All Over It - The Goldsmith
I’ve curated a bunch of products that I think are pretty special, and that I know each of my characters would love to be in the company of.
If they went shopping, this is what I’d like to think they’d buy for themselves. Some of these products are handmade by small-scale businesses like myself, and others are much bigger & operate ethically with a focus on quality over quantity.
For the last in this series we're going on a little journey with possibly the most interesting of my current fabrics, The Goldsmith. Creations seeped in tradition, artisan techniques and objects of both beauty and function, carefully created by skilled hands and eagle eyes all spring to mind when I think of The Goldsmith.
I've been a huge fan of Babyanything since I saw my friend wearing one of her necklaces many years ago. Her delicate pieces are handmade in Sydney and each one is stunning in its own right, but once you start wearing a few together the magic really happens. The lovely woman behind the brand, Lucie, has fans in Kim Kardashian, Miley Cirus and Gigi Hadid, which actually doesn't come as a surprise considering how elegant and stylish her creations are.
Ever since I walked into one of Aesops first stores, in Gertrude Street, Melbourne over a decade ago I have been a huge fan I bought moisturizer and face wash and even then I remember being in love then with the heavy brown glass packaging. Their aesthetic as much as their ethos has made a huge impact in the skincare industry ever since. I adore everything they produce but for The Goldsmith you cant go past their hand cream; rich and wonderfully smelling perfection.
Every creator needs good lighting & I knew for this I would find exactly what I needed at Goodhood aka my favorite fashion and lifestyle shopping destination. This stunning glass, concrete and glass beauty by Swedish designer Jonas Wagell combines delicate and raw textures perfectly and would be right at home in The Goldsmiths studio,
Unto this Last make perfectly crafted timber furniture out of their workshop on Brick Lane, East London. They work with birch that is sourced from FSC-certified Latvian forests and use American oak veneer, hand-finished and sealed with a mix of oil and wax. The beauty of this chair is that all the pieces are slotted into each other with no glue or fixings, making it an extremely solid, yet lovely and minimal piece of furniture.
Every creative needs somewhere to sketch and store their ideas & for me, I cannot be without a Moleskine notebook. Faint grid lines, a soft flexible cover that opens flat and the perfect size and weigh to carry without hassle. All Moleskine notebooks are made with environmentally friendly acid-free paper which is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - certified. The design is said to be based on a classic Italian notebook favored by Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway.
